Ernst Reinhold Schmidt
Born in Markneukirchen, Germany in 1857, E. Reinhold Schmidt apprenticed with J. Kretzschman prior to working for the Bausch and Hammig Workshop and August Riechers. Schmidt established his own shop, E. R. Schmidt & Company, at his home in Markneukirchen in 1884. Schmidt’s shop quickly became one of the more successful German workshops on the early 20th century and the maker’s instruments went on to win gold medals in 1892 and 1913 in Vienna and Leipzig.
