American Case Company® Manhattan Compact Adjustable Viola Case

This case offers nice features at an affordable price. I like the shoulder rest velcro, quality of zippers and exterior, the 2 bow holders, and overall lightness and profile of the case. I don’t love the interior fabric or the lack of depth of the suspension. But overall happy with the case.

This case had all the features I wanted: wood shell, adjustable, string tube, shoulder rest velcro strap. The wood shell flexes some when pushed from the side, but that's probably a compromise between strength and weight. It still seems reasonably sturdy. The main reason I didn't rate this case 5 stars is that the suspension cushion at the base of the instrument is just a 1/4 inch strip of foam/cardboard, not enough to lift the back of the instrument away from the case. For a case advertising "suspension," this is pretty minimal. By comparison, I have a 15-year-old American Case Company Continental violin case which has a sturdier wood shell and nice deep suspension cushions. It may just be a case of "they don't make 'em like they used to."

I was a little disappointed in the case. The padding was not as plush as I had expected. The tip of my bow was slightly wider than the holder, which I had pry out in order to fit it properly. The outside casing was somewhat loosely held. There was no key provided for the lock. No literature on use of the hygrometer or the humidifier was included. The company name tag was not anywhere to be found in or on the case. If a company is proud of its label, it should be appropriately displayed. The only card attached to the case listed the model number only.

This case is beautiful and the quality is excellent. I don't thinks I'll need to ever get another case. The only thing I see on it that will wear out with time are the feet on the case, they'll end up scratched but I don't think they'll fall off. I like the mesh in the music pocket and that it fits my 14.5" viola. I'll just put extra foam to make up for the extra room on the sides because of my viola being so small. This case is easy to carry around and comfortable. It is also easy to adjust to different viola sizes.
