Bruni, A - 25 Studies for Viola - Arranged by Schulz - International Edition

I have a high school viola student who's played some of the Mazas études, but she asked for something else. She's brave and unstoppable, so I ordered the Bruni Studies. Ever since I've known them from my own study of the viola, I've loved them for their musical content, alongside their technical requirements. Some, for example, are in the form of a theme and variations, in which each variation presents a different technical challenge. Some are very slow, requiring exquisite bow control. Others invite the student to work for a fast tempo. Most of them include double stops, which require both bow control and a strong left hand. Fluency in positions I-V is assumed. Though various technical challenges are always present, all of them sound to me like real music.
