So I had an old Pirastro Eudoxa violin E string on my Ernst Heinrich Roth 1714 model from the 1960s. It sounded too shrill but I thought that was inherent with the violin. A lot of famous violinist use the Goldbrokat 24 carat gold E string. Tried it last night and it was the answer to my problem, no more shrill tones and the violin and string responded to the subtle nuances of my 55gram Vuillame bow
