A family story.
Prim was founded in 1943 by professional cellist Gunnar Frojel. His son Urban and grandson Niclas later followed in his footsteps and ran the family business.
During the Second World War strings were hard to come by. Gunnar Frojel, a very curious and innovative man, began experimenting with strings at the dinner table together with his wife Lisa in their Stockholm apartment. He started manufacturing strings on a small scale, his work progressed, and Prim Strings was born!
Gunnar's son Urban, an engineer with a PhD in production technology, transformed the craftsman's manufacturing process into state of the art string production, while increasing Gunnar's high standards of quality.
Today at Prim Strings, we combine the skilled workmanship of experienced string makers with the precision of state of the art production technology to produce top quality strings. To get the right sound and best quality out of every string, we make sure that every string is produced by machines we have developed ourselves exactly according to specification. However, a machine can never fully replace skilled fingers and eyes. After manufacturing, the quality of every string is carefully verified by a string maker before it is packaged and sent to you.
