A shop favorite, this fine violin from the late Tetsuo Matsuda is a powerful example of the master’s work. Clear and sonorous, this is a perfect match for the budding soloist.

The back is of two pieces of maple cut on the quarter of narrow width flame descending from the center joint. The ribs and scroll are of similar maple. The top is of two pieces of spruce cut on the quarter of narrow width grain widening slightly at the flanks. The varnish is brown-orange over a golden ground.
Born in Akita, Japan in 1945, Tetsuo Matsuda began his studies at the Violin Making School in Cremona, Italy in 1977. Matsuda has won gold medals at the Violin Society of America competition as well as silver medals at the Antonio Stradivari International Violin Makers competition. He established a workshop in Barrington, Illinois in 1993. Tetsuo passed away on November 1st, 2022.
