Dominant Strings

These strings have a highly flexible, multi-strand nylon core. The resounding success of Dominant strings is due to its similarity in tone and response to gut strings, without gut's attendant drawbacks. The sound is full and mellow, yet rich in overtones. Its ability to project sound without being metallic comes to the fore both in arco and pizzicato. Also offers effortless response to intricate fingering and tuning stability even under extreme humidity and temperature conditions. Dominant strings should be changed at appropriate intervals to ensure continuity of tone color.

Lush, deep and vibrant!

I've had this new set of Dominant Medium cello strings on my beat-up antique cello for about 2 weeks, and I can say the 3 or 4 days of break-in travails were worth it. The only gut strings I've had were Passiones, which I loved, but I have a "sense" of what gut strings would be like ... both in sound, and playability ... and these strings are "doing it" for me.

I'm really loving how the set works, as a set. The strings agree with each other, tension-wise, as well as sonically.

The upper registers can achieve that angelic singing tone I've always longed for, yet, they can still shriek like a banshee when desired. The tone does not break up under heavy bow pressure, yet they are very dynamic and I can play softly with ease, and maintain good tone.

I also love the deep, smooth, and rich lows, which, on my cello, were a bit of a problem in that my previous strings, Kaplans, were edgy under the ear, and while the Dominants maintain the definition, a lovely fullness now enriches the experience. They are not muddy or flabby at all, at least on my old cello. I may buy another set to try on my 2003 cello which is needing some tonal help.

So yes, I would buy these again! Even as I am "string curious" and love to discover the various characters that different strings bring out of a cello, I would consider Dominants a viable "great option" for the future. Of course, that is barring discovering that they fail to sound good after, say, a year. While I'd love to change strings every 6 months, I cannot afford to. So they need to hold up for at least a year for me, or I would look elsewhere for better longevity options. We'll see! For now, I'm really enjoying them.
