Fantasia on the well-known Greensleeves theme, moderately difficult for the violin.
Vaughan Williams's "Greensleeves" is based largely upon the traditional Greensleeves melody but also borrows from another English folksong that he gathered during fieldwork. The piece itself is a beautiful juxtaposition of folksongs, and it begins with a hauntingly beautiful flute solo that flows into a lush but simplistic string melody.
