REVIEW VIDEOS
This edition of Wieniawski’s Theme original varie, op. 15 is based on the 1901 publication by G. Schirmer, New York (Plate No. 15617). Generally, the suggested primary fingerings in this edition encourage the use of all positions so as to maximize expressive qualities, heighten tonal colors and promote phrase clarity and consistency as well as facilitate technical fluidity. In many places, alternate as well as more traditional fingerings are included in parentheses, and, at times, a second optional fingering is included in brackets. INdeed, some of these fingerings appear in the 1901 edition, which was edited by the American violinist Leopold Lichtenberg (1861 - 1935), whom Wieniawski “discovered” as an outstanding twelve-year-old talent in San Francisco and subsequently taught for three years in Brussels.
The preparation of this edition also included the reconciling of inconsistencies between the separate violin part and the piano score in terms of accidentals, dynamics and dynamic inflections. Additional editorial suggestions are indicated by their enclosure within parentheses and dotted slurs.
