Wieniawski, Henryk - Fantaisie Orientale, Op. 24 - Violin and Piano - International Music Co.

Although much ambiguity remains with the piece, Wieniawski's Fantaisie orientale, Op. 24, is a delightful showpiece, receiving less attention than deserved! Achievable for advanced and even developed intermediate players, this work concentrates a variety of colors and sonorities, extended techniques and unique harmonies, into, according to the editor, Tyrone Grieve, a "highly stimulating setting." Composed sometime in the 1860s or 1870s, Fantaisie orientale was dedicated to renowned violinist, Jeno Hubay, but not published until 1885, 5 years after the composer's death. In this edition, editor Grieve reconciles inconsistencies between earlier editions and, on top of multiple fingerings and bowings, provides a generous wealth of history and commentary in the preface.
