Pirastro Gold Label Strings

Made in larger tolerances than Eudoxa, Pirastro has produced a more economical gut string. The brighter of Pirastro gut strings, they produce a powerful, rich sound sound with a very easy response.

Lovely sweet, resonant sound

Very much enjoying these strings, even on a more “mellow” instrument. They sound at least as good as Dominants, but more overtones. They sound more ring-y than some of the “louder” and more pricey strings on the market. A-string did start to unravel first week, but Shar was really good about instantly shipping a new replacement string when I emailed them and sent a picture. I’ll probably try Passione next, just to see what the difference in volume and tone color is, but I’m quite pleased 2 weeks in.

Great Value

My violin is an Albani made circa 1700. Its dimensions are slightly smaller than a typical full-size violin. It has a warm, soft, but rich tone, yet a powerful sound that projects well when using Pirastro Eudoxa strings. Since the 1960s, my standard strings have been the Pirastro Eudoxa, although from time to time I used the less powerful Pirastro Gold Label when I didnt have enough money to buy the Eudoxa strings. Over the last three years, I have experimented with several strings offered by Shar Music: Larsen; Pirastro Eudoxa, Olive, Obligato, Evah Pirazzi, and Wonder Tone Solo; and Thomastick Dominants and Vision Titanium. So far, the most satisfactory sounding strings have been the Eudoxa and Olive.
The Gold Label strings required a tremendous amount of work to produce a good tone on my violin as compared to Eudoxa. However, if you want gut, they are a great value and I think they sound better than most of the synthetic strings on the market.
